Ada Grace really enjoyed the fuzzy little bunnies and colorful eggs all over WalMart tonight. The egg she seemed to like the best was the one the greeter gave her filled with goodies as we were leaving. But as I sit here at my computer this Resurrection morning, I am reminded of what Easter is really about. As with many holidays, what Easter to really about has been lost in the retail markets hype to sell more goods.
How many people today are going to wake up thinking about where "The Easter Bunny" hid their basket? How many people today are going to wake up thinking of chocolate bunnies and colorful eggs? How many people today are going to wake up and eat a dozen green yolked hard boiled eggs (or do the green yolks only happen to my Aunts? You know who your are!)
But seriously, with Christmas Christ is losing the battle to a jolly man dressed in red bringing gifts...when we all really only need Christs gift. Without Christmas, there would be no Easter! Why is it that the most important thing in all of our lives is so quickly forgotten and put aside? I am guilty of this, just like the next guy. In fact it seems that some of the most amazing things in my life have happened within days of me "giving up on God." This is not something I am proud of, but something I am trying to learn from. Now I am not one to remember the perfect scripture verse for the perfect moment, but I think it is time that family by family we start celebrating Easter for what it is...the day when Christ was resurrected from the dead! I have to admit, that makes me feel very happy, I serve (or at least I try) the one and only LIVING GOD!
I do pray that each and every one of you that read this, can at least take a moment from your fun and games to be thankful for Christ and what he has done for us. I know just today I was reminded of how amazing God is.
HE IS RISEN
Edit ~ My wonderful husband pointed out to me that as I started the 3rd paragraph I didn't get my point across to what I was trying to say. God does not loose battles, so what I said doens't really work. I mean that Christmas is becoming less and less important as the celebration to Jesus' birth, and the red jolly guy is becoming more and more important in todays world.
